Svanehoj acquires KOHO Kompressorsysteme
Acquisition brings advanced compressor technology to Svanehøj’s established portfolio of pumps and tank systems.
Who:
Svanehøj, an
ITT company and supplier of marine pumps, tank systems, and services, has acquired
KOHO Kompressorsysteme (Köhler & Hörter GmbH), a German family-owned compressor specialist.
What: The deal adds KOHO’s portfolio of reciprocating compressors for hydrogen, hydrocarbons, and LNG/LPG applications to Svanehøj’s existing range of pump and tank solutions for gas carriers. KOHO also produces gastight bulkhead shaft penetrations for shipbuilding and industry.
When: The acquisition closed on
1 October 2025.
Where: KOHO is headquartered in
Hagen, Germany, with around 40 employees. Svanehøj now employs 550 people worldwide, across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the U.S.
Why: According to Svanehøj CEO Søren Kringelholt Nielsen, the move is a “logical expansion” in the gas tanker segment, enabling the company to supply compressors alongside cargo pumps and service solutions. The integration strengthens its position as LNG and LPG shipping demand continues to grow.
How: KOHO’s management, André and Björn Hörter, will remain in place under the new ownership. The companies already share experience on high-profile projects, including the
Northern Lights LCO₂ carriers and
Höegh Autoliners’ ammonia-ready Aurora class vessels. Svanehøj expects to leverage KOHO’s technology together with ITT’s global supply chain and sales network to accelerate growth and innovation.
