LNG Global • Jun 18, 2019

The expansion project will increase LNG production capacity from 13.5 million metric tons per annum in aggregate from Trains 1 and 2 to approximately 27.0 MTPA in aggregate from Trains 1 to 4.

On June 14th, 2019 Sempra filed a request with the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to begin the pre-filing environmental review process to add two liquefaction trains (Trains 3 and 4) to the Port Arthur LNG liquefaction and export terminal currently under development in Jefferson County, Texas.

The proposed expansion project will add the two liquefaction trains adjacent to Trains 1 and 2 at Port Arthur LNG. LNG produced from Trains 3 and 4 will be stored and exported using storage tanks and marine facilities already approved as part of Port Arthur LNG. The expansion project will increase LNG production capacity from 13.5 million metric tons per annum in aggregate from Trains 1 and 2 to approximately 27.0 MTPA in aggregate from Trains 1 to 4.

Sempra plans to file its formal application for the proposed expansion project in January 2020. Sempra will request that FERC issue authorization for the siting, construction, and operation of the expansion project by no later than January 2021. Sempra anticipates requesting authorization to begin construction in March 2022.
