Fluor Achieves Significant Milestone in LNG Canada Project

Jul 18, 2023

Global engineering and construction company, Fluor Corporation (NYSE: FLR), announced on July 18, 2023, that it has achieved a significant milestone in the LNG Canada project in Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada. The company celebrated the arrival of the last module from its fabrication yard in Zhuhai, China, marking the completion of the module fabrication program for the project.

Fluor, working in collaboration with its joint venture partner JGC Corporation, has delivered various aspects of the project, including engineering, procurement, module fabrication and delivery, construction of infrastructure and utilities, marine structures, and an LNG storage tank.

"Fluor's role on the LNG Canada Project underscores our commitment to delivering complex energy and chemicals projects for our clients around the world," said Jim Breuer, group president of Fluor’s Energy Solutions business. He emphasized the importance of LNG in displacing higher carbon forms of energy and added, "We are proud to build Canada’s first large LNG export facility, which will support global energy security."

Fluor's accomplishment started with the receipt of the first major module in March 2022, which was 145 feet tall and weighed more than 5,000 tons. Overall, a total of 215 modules of varying sizes have been received and set at the project site, culminating in the arrival of the final module yesterday.

Pierre Bechelany, president of Fluor’s LNG business, praised the completion of the module fabrication program as a major achievement for the LNG Canada Project. "This accomplishment highlights the success of the innovative approach of modular construction, which has enabled us to advance construction activities on-site while working with local communities, a skilled local workforce, and limiting environmental impacts."

LNG Canada, a joint venture involving Shell, Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi Corporation, and Korea Gas Corporation, is set to have an initial capacity to produce 14 million tons of LNG per year. The first shipment of LNG from the project is scheduled for mid-decade.
