Final Authorization for LNG Exports From the Alaska LNG Project

Aug 21, 2020

The U.S. Department of Energy announced yesterday the issuance of a final long-term order to the Alaska LNG Project LLC (Alaska LNG). The order authorized the export of LNG from the proposed Alaska LNG liquefaction terminal in Nikiski, Alaska. Under the terms of the authorization, up to 2.55 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas can be exported as LNG from the liquefaction facility and export terminal  planned for the Kenai Peninsula.

Alaska LNG plans to build an 800-mile pipeline connecting the liquefaction facility to natural gas reserves on the North Slope of Alaska. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission authorized the siting, construction, and operation of the Alaska LNG liquefaction terminal and the related pipeline in May of this year.

Alaska LNG is the 20th large-scale export facility to have a final long-term DOE authorization to export LNG to non-FTA countries, and the second on the West Coast after last month’s approval to the Jordan Cove project in Oregon.
