Dominion Energy Cove Point Enters Commercial Service for Liquefied Natural Gas Export

Dominion Energy officially announced today the Dominion Energy Cove Point liquefied natural gas terminal has entered commercial service for natural gas liquefaction and export. On March 2nd, 2018 the first vessel carrying LNG from the newly constructed export terminal left Cove Point.After completing a planned maintenance outage, the facility has been ramping up to full production of LNG from natural gas provided by its export customers since late March according to today's announcement.

Dominion Energy Cove Pointwill produce LNG for ST Cove Point, which is the joint venture of Sumitomo Corporation and Tokyo Gas, and for Gail Global (USA) LNG, the U.S. affiliate of GAIL (India) LTD, under 20-year take-or-pay contracts.

The Cove Point export terminal is located on the Chesapeake Bay in Lusby, Maryland. Cove Point began as a U.S. import terminal in 1978. Construction started in 2014 to enable export capabilities. Cove Point has authorization from the United States Department of Energy to export up to 0.77 Bcfe/d (approximately 5.75 Mtpa).
