Corpus Christi Train 1 Substantial Completion

Cheniere announced today substantial completion for Train 1 of the Corpus Christi liquefaction project was achieved on February 28, 2019. Commissioning is complete and Bechtel has turned over care, custody, and control of Train 1 to Cheniere. The Corpus Christi liquefaction project site is located on the La Quinta Channelon the northeast side of Corpus Christi Bay in San Patricio County, Texas.

“Train 1 at Corpus Christi has achieved Substantial Completion, becoming the first liquefaction train placed into operation at a greenfield liquefaction facility in the lower 48 states,” said Jack Fusco, President and CEO of Cheniere.

The project is being designed for three trains with expected aggregate nominal production capacity of up to 13.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG. Train 2 commissioning began early 2019 with substantial completion expected in the second half of 2019. Train 3 is over 40% complete and has a target for substantial completion in the second half of 2021. Cheniere has also filed an application with the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for 7 midscale trains (Corpus Christi Stage 3). The total expected nominal capacity for stage 3 is 9.5 mtpa. An environmental assessment for stage 3 is expected from the FERC in the first half of 2019.

Under sale and purchase agreements with Endesa S.A. and PT Pertamina, the date of first commercial delivery from Corpus Christi train 1 is expected to occur in June 2019, upon which the term of each of these SPAs will begin. Additionally, bridging volumes are expected to begin in June 2019 under an SPA with Iberdrola, S.A.
