Cheniere Announces Substantial Completion of Train 2 at Corpus Christi LNG Project

Cheniere Energy announced today that substantial completion of Train 2 of the Corpus Christi liquefaction project was achieved on August 28, 2019. Commissioning is complete and Cheniere’s EPC partner Bechtel has turned over care, custody, and control of Train 2 to Cheniere.

Under sale and purchase agreements with Électricité de France, S.A., Iberdrola, S.A., Naturgy Energy Group S.A., PT Pertamina (Persero), and Woodside Energy Trading Singapore Pte Ltd, the date of first commercial delivery is expected to occur in May 2020, upon which the term of each of these SPAs commences.

The project is being designed for three trains with expected aggregate nominal production capacity of up to 13.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG. Train 3 has a target for substantial completion in the 2021. Cheniere has also filed an application with the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for 7 midscale trains (Corpus Christi Stage 3). The total expected nominal capacity for stage 3 is 9.5 mtpa.

The Corpus Christi liquefaction project site is located on the La Quinta Channel on the northeast side of Corpus Christi Bay in San Patricio County, Texas. In total at the Corpus Christi liquefaction project and the Sabine Pass liquefaction project Cheniere has declared substantial completion on seven liquefaction trains
